‘The Bay’ is very picturesque with a dramatic Pacific coastline and white sand beaches.  Most plantings are on alluvial gravels and the varietal focus is on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah.  Cabernet Franc can also perform exceptionally well.  There are some cooler inland sites on what are now river terraces, these mudstone and sandstone beds are often fossiliferous and the sites are known for high quality Chardonnay.  Limestone hills surround the region – some sites have been developed and more will surely follow.
